3rd Grade-6th Grade: This is a really neat drawing trick! It will look like there is a hole in your paper using our Art Elements of LINE, VALUE (shading-black, white, and grays), and our laws of PERSPECTIVE! One Point Perspective: The illusion that the art contains space using a vanishing point. QUESTION: Do you know what the artist uses as a vanishing point in this piece? How many different values does the artist use? Materials: -white paper -black marker -pencil PreK-2nd: Practice with LINE and SHAPE! This artist uses different LINES, SHAPES, and COLOR to create different PATTERNS! Review the LINES we have talked about in class: Zig-zag, Loopty-loop, Wavy, Straight, Dotted, and Swirls. Review the different SHAPES you have learned: square, circle, triangles, diamonds, and rectangles. If you need help drawing these things you may be able to trace different shapes you can find (example: cup for a circle, blocks for squares and triangles) Review some COLOR combinations that work well together (ex. red and orange may blend together, but blue and orange are opposite colors or complimentary; this may work better) Materials: -white paper (one for your project, and one for reviewing those lines and shapes!) -coloring material (crayon, marker, colored pencil) 5th and 6th Grade: Practice One Point Perspective! We will be doing a lot of perspective practice because it is an important design technique that helps us create the illusion of deep SPACE in our artwork. QUESTION: What is the "vanishing point" in this project and what is its purpose? Do we need this "point" to create one point perspective? MATERIALS: -white paper -pencil -ruler or straight edge to trace -coloring materials (color your project when you are all done!) PreK-1st Grade: Draw a Robot! Robots are so fun to draw because we can create their bodies using tons of different SHAPES and LINES! Finish these funny robot printouts using pencil then color with your favorite material! Don't forget to give your Robot a silly name and tell a little story about them. If an Adult can help you write it down, put your story on your paper too! Materials: -Robot worksheet -pencil -favorite coloring material
PREK-KINDERGARTEN Letter Tracing:
Have an adult write out the letters of the alphabet. If you don't have paint practice tracing each letter with crayon. If you do have paint, dip the q-tips in the paint and try to trace each letter! Materials: -q-tips -paint -paper -crayon If students are unable to reach the videos and texts online, what I have done is created an Art Choice Board that is sent home to each family. This will ensure our kiddos keep creating and have plenty of ideas to choose from for Preschool - 6th Grade.
Art for Kids Hub is a great channel on YouTube for kids to follow step by step instruction and to get in their drawing practice. It is a great idea to do along with your art student too! FREE DRAW FUN!
What kind of dreamer are you?! Listen to the the story "Happy Dreamer" by Peter H. Reynolds and draw a picture of you in your favorite dream. It could be a make believe, and creative as you want! Make it a place that you could go time and time again to escape to your "happy place" or your "safe place". Materials: -paper -pencil -whatever coloring materials you would like! FREE DRAW with VIDEO INSPIRATION (PREK-4th)
Listen as Mati & Dada as they learn about Vincent VanGogh. Look up a picture in a magazine, newspaper, or use the ones below of flowers. Try and draw the flowers you see remembering to start with simple shapes (example: a circle in the middle and petals are thin oval shapes) Create MOVEMENT when you color the background (area behind your flowers) with different colors and lines. For example: your background could be filled with swirls of blues and purples instead of just regular blue sky behind the different flowers in the photos, like Vincent Van Gogh Materials: -paper -pencil -coloring materials of choice PreK-1st Grade: Draw a Boat! Boats can be drawn simply by putting some simple shapes together. To make the boat your own, can you add lines and patterns? Who would be riding on your boat? Where are you going? Complete the drawing by printing the worksheet below and tell a little story. If you have an adult to help you, or would like to challenge yourself, write your story on the back! Materials: -Boat Worksheet -pencil -favorite coloring material
